Walktall, you packaged up cognitive dissonance in an easy to understand situation that almost anybody can relate to.

as i've mentioned on the board before, i am still inside (for now) hopefully until i can get my children to start thinking more on their own.
one way i have been coping with all the ridiculous nonsense around me is to see and treat the cult personality as the child it is.
realizing that has helped me to understand how intelligent, articulate people remain as cult members.

being a jehovah's witness at any time and at any level is a major head f*ck.
the reason is that it obscures what is important and causes you to focus on what doesn't matter.. i've moved on from my jw experience.
it's a shame that i found myself a born in, taught to focus on things that don't matter.
Better than great Jeff.
I'm saving this one. You have a wonderful ability to put into words the feelings that I often have difficulty deciphering.

so, darth plaugeis (or however you spell it) has suggested that the best way to get out of going to the meeting is to tell your wife that it's time to get ready for the meeting, and when her back is turned hit her over the head with a large object.. i'm sure there are better ways to get out of going.
i'm looking for some real ideas here.
" i like the whole getting your wife (or husband) drunk before the meeting so they won't want to go idea.
I use a scriptural reason.

just a question really and whilst i would not put it past them i sort of feel it is too 'conspiracy theory' for me.
are elders and bethelites officially sanctioned to lurk (or engage) in this or other sites to try to weedle out apostates?
does anyone have any direct experience of it happening?.
From what I recall, a former poster on this site got ousted because he was identified.
Does anyone still remember Richie Rich?

my late grandmother died in terror of having her spirit sleep at death.
just before she died, she was inundated by reading material from my aunt (who's jw).
it made her think of the cold clay in the grave as her destination after death, even if it was temporary.
There is only one original.
I basically mentioned the same thing to an elder. I told him that if I took a photo with my digital camera, it thus became an original. Then I would e-mail him the photo as an attachment. Soon thereafter my computer crashed and I lost the original photo. But he would have a copy. Not the original. Only a copy of the original. Isn't it the same with the "resurrection"? He looked perplexed and said that Jehovah can do anything.

i've seen evangelical sites that show dinosaurs dying in the great flood.
these people believe that god created the earth in seven 24-hour days, and have wondered that if god could just "speak" the earth into existence, why he would need the other six days.
(couldn't he just will it into existence in a flash?).
I've heard (in an elder's opinion) that the main purpose dinosaurs were created was to act as giant lawnmowers by consuming plant life to control the outstanding growth of vegetation that was engulfing the earth. Of course, I then asked him about the carnivorous dinosaurs, and he answered that they were created to control the outstanding growth population of the giant lawnmower plant eating dinosaurs.

i understand that marriages between an older man and a much younger woman are a fact of jw life.
the reasons i have seen include the lack of an available prospect, of the fact that the older man has some power in the congregation and therefore marrying him is something like an advantage.
i wonder what the advantage can be, and i would appreciate any light on this (new or old).. but, how often does a younger man marry an older woman?
A few years ago I knew of an elder in his 50's who married a pioneer sister in her 70's. They ended up taking care of her 95 year old mother.

an elder once told me "that if the spiritual food he recieves is wrong, and he follows it ,jehovah will not hold him accountable".
all through out the bible it incourages a person to test, ask and seek, and to make sure of all things, so how can he not be accountable ?.
what is the best scripture that would show him that he's accountable for what he recieves.

commentary on mp3s: (in addition to circulate as you see fit!).
in light of the wts's recent attempts to conceal it's talks from broader inspection and documentation, mp3s to the public are now mostly the works of the 'conscious class' and those exjws who force themselves to endure hours upon hours of control-laced presentations.
kudos to all those who embody anonymous.
Much Thanks yknot!
